Regional Film Funds in France

French regions, departments and cities operate their own film and audiovisual funds, often linked to production expenditure or cultural connections with the territory. Key regional funds include:

EUROPE & INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION


Creative Europe MEDIA — European Commission programme supporting audiovisual development, European slate development, TV and online content, distribution, markets, audience development and training across eligible countries. Active 2026 calls confirmed.

Eurimages — Council of Europe fund supporting international co-production of feature films, animation and documentaries. Annual budget approximately €30 million. Active 2026 sessions confirmed.

European Commission Funding & Tenders Portal — Search portal for current Creative Europe and related EU funding calls.

UNITED KINGDOM


BFI — British Film Institute / National Lottery Filmmaking Fund — Principal source of UK independent film support. £61 million allocated to Filmmaking & Talent Development under the 2026–2029 Funding Plan. Programmes include:

  • BFI National Lottery Discovery Feature Funding — Up to £1 million for debut directors. Features with budgets £1m–£3.5m.
  • BFI National Lottery Impact Feature Funding — Support for established filmmakers.
  • BFI NETWORK — Support for emerging writers, directors and producers. Short films, early feature development and professional development across the UK's nations and regions.
  • BFI Short Film Funding — Selective support for short-film production.
  • BFI Doc Society Fund — Documentary funding in partnership with Doc Society.
  • International Connections — Support for international co-production and market access.

Screen Scotland — Development and production support for feature films and documentaries connected to Scotland, plus broadcast and market/festival funds.

Ffilm Cymru Wales — Development, production and talent support for Welsh filmmakers and projects with a meaningful Welsh connection.

Screen Ireland / Fís Éireann — Major national source of Irish screen funding. Development, production, short film, documentary, animation, television and talent-development support.

Netherlands Film Fund — Development, production, minority co-production and other support for Dutch and qualifying international projects.

IDFA Bertha Fund — International documentary fund supporting filmmakers from eligible countries. Covers development and production/post-production, with international co-production routes.

Hubert Bals Fund — IFFR — Supports filmmakers particularly from regions with limited independent filmmaking infrastructure. Includes development and production-related support.

World Cinema Fund — Berlinale — Supports feature films and documentaries from regions with weaker film-financing structures, often involving German or European co-production partners.
