SOLAIRE PITCHUP

READINESS SCORECARD

Is your project ready to be put in front of the right people?

HOW TO SCORE YOUR PROJECT

Use the same scoring principle throughout the Scorecard.

0–2 | NOT ESTABLISHED

Important foundations are missing or cannot yet be answered clearly.

3–4 | EARLY DEVELOPMENT

Some elements exist, but substantial development or clarification is required.

5–6 | DEVELOPING

The fundamentals are present, but important gaps or uncertainties remain.

7–8 | STRONG

A convincing position with only limited work required.

9–10 | READY

Clear, credible and appropriate for the project's current stage and intended next approach.

N/A | NOT REQUIRED YET

Use where a criterion genuinely does not apply at the project's current stage. Early-stage creators should not lose points for materials or attachments that belong later in development.

This is a creator self-assessment. PitchUp conducts its own professional assessment when a project is submitted.

01. PROJECT STAGE

Where is the project now?

  • Concept
  • Treatment
  • Screenplay
  • Revised screenplay
  • Producer attached
  • Development
  • Packaging
  • Finance
  • Pre-production

This establishes the starting point. It should not penalise an early-stage writer for failing to possess materials that belong much later in development.

TIMING & DEADLINES

Does anything affect when the project needs to move?

  • Option or rights expiry
  • Funding or grant deadline
  • Broadcaster or commissioner window
  • Market or festival deadline
  • Talent availability
  • Co-production timetable
  • Existing contractual deadline
  • Other time-sensitive opportunity
  • No current deadline

Does the proposed PitchUp route remain realistic within that timeframe?

Score: /10

02. THE ASK

Can you state precisely what you want from the person receiving the pitch?

  • Producer
  • Development partner
  • Production company
  • Commissioner or broadcaster
  • Financier or investor
  • Co-producer
  • Sales agent
  • Distributor
  • Talent attachment
  • Grant or public funding
  • Other strategic partner

Is the ask specific, realistic and appropriate to the project's current stage?

Score: /10

03. CREATIVE READINESS

Has the underlying creative work reached the standard required for this particular approach?

  • Screenplay or treatment sufficiently developed
  • Premise clear
  • Genre and format clear
  • Characters and story engine established
  • Tone identifiable
  • Series engine established where applicable
  • Material capable of sustaining the proposed format

The detailed creative assessment belongs in the Story Diagnostic. Do not repeat it here. The readiness question is simply whether significant story problems remain that would make pitching premature.

Score: /10

04. PITCH CLARITY

Can somebody understand the project quickly?

  • Strong title
  • Compelling logline
  • Concise project overview
  • Clear synopsis
  • Genre
  • Format
  • Intended audience
  • Tone
  • Distinctive proposition
  • Clear reason to continue reading

Could a decision-maker understand what the project is, who it is for and why it might be interesting within the first few cards of the PitchUp package?

Score: /10

05. CREATOR & TEAM

Who is behind the project, and is the team appropriate for the current ask?

  • Writer
  • Creator
  • Producer
  • Director
  • Production company
  • Key creative attachments
  • Relevant experience
  • Previous work
  • Awards or recognition
  • Professional credibility

Important: A writer seeking their first producer does not lose points because they do not already have a producer, director, cast or production company. In that case, finding those people may be the purpose of the pitch.

Score: /10

06. RIGHTS & OWNERSHIP

Can the creator legitimately take the project forward?

  • Authorship
  • Copyright ownership
  • Chain of title
  • Underlying rights
  • Book/article/life rights
  • Option agreements
  • Collaborator agreements
  • Adaptation permissions
  • Music or archive dependencies
  • Known rights complications

At an early stage, some rights work may still be outstanding. The important question is whether anything exists that could prevent the project progressing.

Score: /10

DISCLOSURE CHECK

Before sharing the project, can you clearly identify:

  • â–¡ What information can be shared
  • â–¡ What should remain confidential
  • â–¡ Whether third-party permissions are required
  • â–¡ Whether commercially sensitive financial or contractual information is appropriately protected

DISCLOSURE STATUS: CLEAR / REVIEW REQUIRED

07. MARKET POSITIONING

Does the creator understand where the project sits?

  • Intended audience
  • Comparable projects
  • Genre positioning
  • Format
  • Territory potential
  • Language
  • International potential
  • Platform or broadcaster relevance where appropriate
  • Distinctive market proposition

Comparables should explain positioning, rather than promise identical commercial performance.

Score: /10

08. PRODUCTION FEASIBILITY

Can the project plausibly be made?

  • Approximate budget range
  • Locations
  • Period requirements
  • Cast scale
  • VFX
  • Stunts
  • Specialist production requirements
  • Children or animals
  • Travel
  • Unusual technical demands
  • Scheduling implications

For projects further advanced, this can include a preliminary breakdown and schedule. For an unproduced writer seeking a producer, a professional production schedule should not be required.

Score: /10

09. FINANCE READINESS

This section is conditional. If the project is approaching financiers, investors, funds or certain production partners, assess:

  • Indicative budget
  • Finance requirement
  • Existing finance
  • Funding gap
  • Public funding opportunities
  • Tax incentives
  • Co-production potential
  • Pre-sales potential
  • Private investment
  • Grants
  • Sponsorship or institutional partnerships where appropriate
  • Recoupment proposition where relevant

A writer simply seeking a producer receives N/A, rather than zero.

Score: /10 or N/A

10. PACKAGE COMPLETENESS

Does the PitchUp package contain everything necessary for this particular approach?

  • Logline
  • Overview
  • Synopsis
  • Creator statement
  • Characters
  • World
  • Visual language
  • Sample screenplay pages
  • Pitch video
  • Market positioning
  • Comparables
  • Audience
  • Budget indication
  • Team
  • Rights information
  • Finance information
  • Production information
  • Contact and ask

The package should contain what advances the decision. More material is not automatically better.
