The World

Most of Flocking Pixels unfolds inside an isolated villa in the South of France, where Lena and Mohan live and work under relentless pressure to meet an immovable deadline. Beyond the house, the story expands to international summits, corporate headquarters, urban chase sequences, prison flashbacks and assassination attempts. Overlooking it all is Helena's monumental crow installation, Pixels, constructed from discarded computer components, dominating the glass atrium of NovaTerra's headquarters.

Characters

Helena

A formidable climate economist and architect of the Global Sustainability Ledger. After surviving two assassination attempts, Helena disappears from public view while secretly coordinating an international network of GSL teams. Brilliant, strategic and deliberately difficult to locate, she brings Lena and Mohan together in a secluded safe house to complete the Ledger before the international summit. As information leaks and members of her network are targeted, Helena must determine who is trying to destroy the GSL, who is trying to infiltrate it, and whom she can still trust.

Lena

A brilliant programmer and former hacktivist whose wrongful imprisonment cost her five years and her mother's final days. Fiercely intelligent, darkly funny and instinctively suspicious, she masks grief with wit while refusing to compromise her principles.

Arc: From isolated survivor driven by anger to someone learning, painfully, to trust again.

Mohan

A globally respected climate economist specialising in behavioural economics and public policy. Quiet, analytical and burdened by guilt, he unknowingly authorised the falsified evidence that sent Lena to prison. For him, completing the GSL is inseparable from redemption.

Arc: From complicit bystander carrying quiet shame to a man who chooses accountability over safety.

Rupert Leenhardt

The powerful industrialist behind NovaTerra and PROSPER, and Lena's estranged father. She has spent years trying to bring down his empire. Expected to oppose the GSL, Rupert instead publicly endorses it, recognising that controlling the evidence entering the Ledger may be more valuable than destroying the system itself. His strategy places him at the centre of the conspiracy and forces Lena's political crusade into deeply personal territory.

Sebastian

Charming, privileged and deliberately difficult to read, Sebastian moves between Helena's inner circle and Rupert's world while concealing where his loyalties truly lie. He knows the truth about Mohan's signature and repeatedly threatens to expose it, making him dangerous to both Mohan and the completion of the GSL. His attraction to Lena further complicates whether he is ultimately an ally, opportunist or threat.

Story

Five years after exposing a major environmental fraud, hacktivist Lena is released from prison determined to find the person whose signature destroyed her life. During her imprisonment, she lost her freedom, her mother and five years with her daughter. Convinced someone knowingly sacrificed her, she secretly buys an illegal gun and vows to make them pay.

Hidden after surviving two assassination attempts, Helena recruits Lena and renowned climate economist Mohan to complete the Global Sustainability Ledger, a system designed to expose the true environmental and social cost of economic activity. Lena has no idea that Mohan's signature on a report containing falsified data unknowingly sent her to prison. Mohan knows he is living alongside a woman who intends to kill the person responsible.

As they race towards an international summit, industrialist Rupert Leenhardt unexpectedly endorses the GSL. The reason soon emerges: his organisation PROSPER is positioning itself as a trusted source of data for the Ledger. Rupert does not need to destroy the system if he can corrupt the evidence entering it and influence what the world ultimately sees.

Meanwhile, information is leaking, Helena has survived two attempts on her life, and a member of the Helsinki GSL team is killed during a live connection. Sebastian appears to know more than he admits, including Mohan's secret. As Lena and Mohan grow closer, Mohan must choose between protecting the GSL and telling Lena the truth that could destroy their relationship, and possibly get him killed.

7 · WHY WE CARE

At its heart, Flocking Pixels is about two people living with the consequences of the same injustice from opposite sides. Lena has lost five years of her life, her mother, and the chance to raise her daughter. Her driving need is to bring her daughter home and hold accountable the person responsible for destroying their lives.

Mohan carries the knowledge that his signature helped cause that loss. As they work together, suspicion becomes trust, trust becomes intimacy, and Mohan falls in love with the woman who has sworn vengeance against the person he secretly knows himself to be.

What they stand to lose extends beyond the GSL. Lena risks discovering that the person she has learned to trust is inseparable from the betrayal she cannot forgive. Mohan risks losing Lena by telling her the truth, or losing himself by continuing to conceal it. Their relationship turns a global conspiracy into an intensely personal question of guilt, love, justice and whether some betrayals can ever be survived.

TONE, COMPARABLES, MARKET POSITIONING & WHY NOW

Tonal References

  • The Tenth Man – contained psychological suspense.
  • Ex Machina – intellectual tension and moral ambiguity.
  • Don't Look Up – political satire and institutional absurdity.

Why Now?

Across the world, whistleblowers, investigative journalists and hacktivists continue to expose corruption, environmental misconduct and corporate deception, often at enormous personal cost. Increasingly, the focus has shifted from those responsible for wrongdoing to those who reveal it, leaving many to pay with their careers, their freedom and, in some cases, their safety.

At the same time, artificial intelligence, environmental reporting and sustainability regulation are transforming how governments, businesses and investors measure risk and accountability. Yet despite unprecedented amounts of data, society still struggles to distinguish genuine progress from carefully managed appearances.

Flocking Pixels brings these issues together through a deeply human story about truth, guilt, justice and redemption. Rather than asking whether environmental destruction is occurring, it asks a more unsettling question: what happens when the systems used to measure success quietly reward the very behaviour they claim to prevent?

MARKET POSITIONING

Flocking Pixels is a commercially accessible international conspiracy thriller combining the contained psychological tension of The Tenth Man, the intellectual and technological unease of Ex Machina and the institutional satire of Don’t Look Up. Its central conspiracy expands beyond a single corporate antagonist as competing interests seek to infiltrate, manipulate or stop the GSL for different reasons. Environmental crime, AI, espionage, romance and dark humour combine with escalating physical danger, while the relationship between Lena and Mohan provides a strong emotional engine. Its international setting, European locations and cross-border story also create natural potential for European co-production and international casting.

ABOUT THE CREATOR

Rosalind McKenna — Writer · Producer · Founder

Rosalind McKenna is a British writer and producer based in France. Her professional background spans film production, studio management and screenwriting, combining creative development with practical experience of bringing projects towards production.

She founded and ran Silver Road Studios in London, a film and television production facility whose clients included the BBC, Disney, ITV, Channel 4 and National Geographic. As a producer, she produced the feature film Breaking Down (2014).

She is currently developing a slate of original film and television projects through Silver Road Media, including Flocking Pixels, The Memory of Graves, Letters from the Condemned, The Fourth Lineage and Wait for Me.

WHY THIS PROJECT

Flocking Pixels brings together Rosalind's interest in environmental accountability, emerging technology and the systems that determine whose version of the truth prevails. Conceived as an international thriller with dark humour, the film uses the creation of the Global Sustainability Ledger as the engine for a more personal story about complicity, justice, betrayal and the cost of exposing powerful interests.

WHY ME
Flocking Pixels grew out of years of research undertaken while developing a sustainable film studio in southern France. Trying to understand how to build responsibly led me much further into sustainability, environmental accountability, greenwashing and the economic incentives that can undermine genuine progress. I became fascinated by the contradiction between what institutions say they value and what their systems actually reward. But I am equally interested in the human contradiction: how we reconcile affection, loyalty and respect with discovering that someone we care about has done something fundamentally opposed to our values. Flocking Pixels brings those two questions together, making a vast systemic problem intimate through people carrying guilt, secrets and impossible compromises
